Dear MHS Families,
Aloha!! Attached find the assesmbly for today. In it, we have a Japanese lesson, student submissions, an origami lesson, a history lesson of a young boy who saved a Magpie while he was in an interment camp and a beautiful song about the land and sea of Hawaii. The video was a little long so if your child watches before they join their class, you might want to have them begin the video at 8:20 instead of 8:30.
I also suggest that your child have a square piece of paper so they can follow along with the origami lesson.

Dear MHS Families
Please join us for the first Friday assembly of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We have created two assemblies in the hope that each would meet the instructional needs of our students. Half of both assemblies include: my greeting; pledge and jokes/riddles led by Student Council; a PTA Annoucement and a presentation by Mrs. Tull's and Mrs. Owen's classes. We follow this with two different clips, one featuring children's favorite foods and the other a student chef and photographer! Then the primary and upper grade videos offer different learning opportunites. For our primary grade students, they will get an opportunity to learn more about the Asian continent. For our upper grade students, they too get a chance to learn about the 43 countries that make up Asia and they also get a chance to hear from Asians who have felt the impact of racial stereotypes. Our assemblies this month will continue to provide an opportuntity for visibility, inclusivity and equity.
I do encourage all of our students who might be able to share informaton about the Asian culture, whether it be in art form, through food or language, familiy tradition and celebrations, to submit videos for the next three weeks so they might be featured in our assemblies.
thanks,
Dr. Narro

Dear MHS Families,
Is everyone excited???? I know the MHS Staff is ready to go! We have waited an entire year to say hello in person to our 3-5th grade students and the time is finally here! Those third graders who's families opted for hybrid instruction, will be back this Thursday, March 11 and our 4-5th graders on Monday, March 15.
I have a couple of resources that will hopefully answer any questions your child or you might have about our return. I had to update our reopening playbook (one last time) and so I am again attaching it to this note, below.
With the help of Lauren Child and Hector Batista, we also updated our Tk-2nd grade video to include entrance gates for upper grades and I even got a peacock to pose for me! I have attached that here as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iijUNA74YF8
So looking forward to the students return!

Dear MHS Families,
What a day!!! Best ever!
And, I was lucky to end it watching the finished product of our assembly. I love curating the assembly, and once Mr. Lopez puts it together and I get to see it in its finished product, I can't help but keep a huge smile on my face. Thanks to this week's contributors, former MHS Roadrunner Kennedy Mitchell, Mrs. Bishop and her students, Mrs. Shanny and Mr Lopez!
Please enjoy,
Dr. Narro
