Dear MHS Families,
Here is our assembly for this week. We actually put together two; one for the upper grades and one for the primary grades. In this video the students hear about gender norms and stereotypes and also learn about activtist Harvey Milk. The video ends with a song about love in every type of family combination.
Have a great weekend!
Dr. Laurie Narro
Dear MHS Families,
Here is tomorrow's assemblies. We have our second and final video celebrating PRIDE month. Students are introduced to the concept of gender norms and hear a story about a stuffed animal Teddy who wants to be renamed Tilly. They also hear a song called Love is Love, which describes various family combinations.
Happy Watching,
Dr. Laurie Narro
Dear MHS Families,
Attached please find our virtual assembly. This and next week we are celebrating PRIDE month. In our assembly you will find:
-a discussion with student council members on the definition of an ally and what a person can do in this role
-a reading from Mr. Hall of the book Sparkle Boy. This is a story in which a younger boy really likes sparkly things. His sister gets to wear a sparkly skirt, nail polish and bracelets and he wants to wear these items, as well. His sister objects, even though his parents and grandmother are in support. When the boy is teased at school, his sister comes to his defense as an ally and ultimately accepts the choices he has made.
Our hope with all our assemblies this school year has been to acknowledge diversity; promote allyship; and encourage inclusivity. We believe this video meets these goals.
Thanks,
Dr. Narro
MHS makes amazing memories near or far! Thank you school community for making this a great year and one for the history books. We have seen tremendous change and met the challenges together whether by screen or on school grounds. We know that in between every smiling student photo there were ups and downs and everything in between. This makes it even more inspiring to reflect on how far we’ve come over these past 9 months. Take a look at our 2020 - 2021 school year MHS Memories Video and take a moment to see our highlights made possible by your continuing support!
