Principal's Message

August 1, 2023

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 23-24 school year!  I hope you had a restful summer break and are ready for this upcoming school year. The Monterey Hills staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our new and returning Roadrunners back to school on Tuesday, August 15th with warmth and excitement. My commitment as the new principal of MHS is to continue to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for all my students in order to continue to develop critical thinkers, problem solvers, and empathetic scholars.

I am extremely excited to be back at MHS and to be part of this great community once again.  I am looking forward to learning, supporting and if needed, enhancing the practices, procedures, and policies to ensure students are in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that also promotes equity and belonging.

As the new principal, my goal this school year is to build relationships with my students, staff and families and to support the practices that provide students the opportunity to grow emotionally and academically.  For the past 2 school years, MHS staff has been focusing on the social emotional well being of students. This year we will continue to focus on the SEL of our students, with the implementation of an anti-bullying unit, classroom community activities, and the Second Step Curriculum.

The MHS staff has been busy preparing for the return of our Roadrunners and to begin our journey together.  This school year is going to be filled with many new experiences and I know that, together, we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all of our students.

Thank you,

Mrs. Zavala
