2019-2020 School Registration Process

SPUSD Welcomes Prospective Students for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (February 5, 2019) – The registration process for enrolling students in South Pasadena elementary schools for the 2019-2020 school year will begin February 25, 2019 at 9 a.m. The first step for all parents interested in registering students is to schedule an in-person appointment at their home school. The student’s home school is determined by the attendance area boundaries of each school http://bit.ly/HomeSchoolBoundaries

Siblings of current students will register first at their home school - to improve the likelihood that siblings will attend the same elementary school - followed by new families in the District. When parents/guardians attend the in-person meetings during the designated dates, they are ensured an equal chance of home school placement during the new family lottery, regardless of when the meeting takes place. The date and time of registration will only be used to determine school placement, as space permits, for students who register after March 25, 2019. Registration is a multi-step process as outlined below:

SIBLINGS OF CURRENT STUDENTS (TK-5):

  1. Starting February 25, 2019 at 9 a.m., visit the home school to schedule an in-person appointment between Tuesday, March 5 and Friday, March 8, 2019 and pick up a registration packet;
  2. Fill out registration online at my.spusd.net and print two copies of the registration;
  3. Attend the scheduled in-person appointment March 5-8, between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-3 p.m. to complete the registration process. **Parents must bring all required paperwork including residency verification documents.**

STUDENTS NEW TO THE DISTRICT (TK-5):

  3. Fill out registration online at my.spusd.net and print two copies of the registration;
  4. Attend the scheduled in-person appointment March 18-22, between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-3 p.m. to complete the registration process. **Parents must bring all required paperwork including residency verification documents.**

STUDENTS INTERESTED IN DUAL IMMERSION (DI) PROGRAM:

  3. Fill out registration online at my.spusd.net and print two copies of the registration – NOTE INTEREST IN DUAL IMMERSION, POSSIBLE OLDER SIBILING ENROLLMENT IN THE DI PROGRAM and LANGUAGE FLUENCY;
  4. Attend the scheduled in-person appointment March 5-8 (siblings) or March 18-22 (new families) between 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-3 p.m.to complete the registration process. **Must bring all required paperwork including residency verification documents.**

Required documents at the in-person appointment include three current proofs of residence, two copies of the printed AERIES Internet Registration (AIR), original birth certificate or passport for the child, original immunization records for the child (officially translated, if in another language), and photo identification of the parent/guardian registering the child.

After sibling and new family registrations take place, two different lotteries will be held. First, the Dual Immersion (DI) lotteries will be held to establish the DI kindergarten classes at Marengo (Mandarin) and Monterey Hills (Spanish), and then the new family lottery will be held to establish priority among the new families who have registered at each home school. The DI lottery will take place on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. and the new family lottery will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. These lotteries are open to the public and are held at the District Office boardroom.

If parents would like a child to attend a school other than the home school, they must complete an open enrollment form, available at the school office, and turn it in to SPUSD, Office of Instructional Services, Room 4, prior to June 7, 2019. The open enrollment lottery will take place in early August, and those placements, if possible, will be made just before the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

Families with new middle or high school students may pre-register their students at the school sites beginning April 15, 2019 by appointment. Please check the school or District website for more information.

Families interested in securing spots for kinder-care or after-care with the District’s Extended Day Program should visit http://bit.ly/SPUSDExtendedDay to register for the lottery beginning March 5, 2019.
