South Pasadena Unified Board of Education Considers Placing Renewal Measure on February Ballot
SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (November 1, 2017) – Since 2009, South Pasadena community members have supported local education parcel tax funding which helps keep South Pasadena schools among the best in California. If the parcel tax -- renewed in 2013 -- expires in 2018, South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) would lose approximately $2.3 million in locally-controlled school funding each year.
SPUSD uses parcel tax proceeds to fund salaries for teachers and school staff, which allows for reduced class sizes as well as to support academic programs. These funds pay for items such as the elementary arts program, middle school and high school electives, school counselors, computer technicians, and library aides.
In an effort to protect high-quality programs and staff, the SPUSD Board of Education will consider placing a parcel tax renewal measure on the February 27, 2018 all-mail ballot. The meeting to discuss this important issue will be held on November 14, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the District office board room at 1020 El Centro Street in South Pasadena.
