Summer Construction Projects at SPUSD Schools Will Limit Community Access

Districtwide Solar Panel Installation and HVAC Upgrades Begin June 6, 2024
 
SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (May 22, 2024) – South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) is set to begin its districtwide solar panel installation projects and HVAC replacement projects at school campuses starting on June 6, 2024. Several fields, various entrances, and community facilities at school sites will be affected. Details about school closures are listed below:
  • South Pasadena High School (SPHS)–Main campus will be open for South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF) Summer School. The parking lot and main entrance of South Pasadena High School will be closed. There will be no access to the high school grounds from Fremont Avenue. Duration: all summer.
  • South Pasadena Middle School (SPMS)–Main campus will be open for SPEF Summer School. Access to campus will be through the Oak Street gate. All playing fields, surfaces, and courts will be closed, including the upper artificial turf field, the lower grass field, and all pickleball, basketball, and tennis courts. The middle school parking lot will also be closed. Duration: all summer.
  • Marengo Elementary School–Main campus will be open for SPEF Summer School. Summer School designated drop off and pickup will be on Marengo Avenue (no change). SPUSD Extended Day drop off and pickup will be on Stratford Avenue (no change).
  • Monterey Hills Elementary School–Main campus will be closed including the  playground/park area. Duration: all summer.
  • Arroyo Vista Elementary School–Main campus will be closed including the playground. Duration: all summer.
For children planning to attend SPEF Summer School at SPHS, SPMS, and Marengo, SPEF will be sharing additional information about entrances, access, and the locations to be used for drop-offs and pickups. SPUSD expects the construction projects to be completed by the start of school on August 14, 2024.
