MHS - 5th Grade Promotion Car Parade - June 1

Dear Parents of our 5th Graders,

Monterey Hills School is excited to 'recreate' a promotion ceremony for our 5th Grade Students, Class of 2020!  Teachers and administrators have designed a car-parade plus a virtual assembly celebration, to simulate what students would have experienced had we been able to gather on June 1st.

Car Parade
Our teachers want to wish everyone well, so we have planned a safely curated parade of cars. Thanks to our 5th Grade Parent Committee, PTA Ex. Board and MHS staff, we will have the area decorated and provide a festive environment!  Teachers and staff will cheer our 5th grade students forward, as they drive up Via del Rey in front of Monterey Hills School.

We will ask that cars line up in procession going east on Monterey Road in order to turn right on Via Del Rey.  We are lucky enough to have the South Pasadena Police Dept. to help guide the traffic at that corner.

Please ensure that you follow the safety guidelines established by CDC and LACoE:
  • Please remain in your car at all times.
  • If you roll down the windows, please ensure that all occupants are wearing masks.
  • Car parades cannot include participants on a bicycle, a motorcycle, a convertible with the top open, or a vehicle with no doors such as a golf cart.
In order to ensure continued safety and avoid too much extra traffic, we have set a schedule for each class to begin their caravan on the half hour as follows:
  1. Mrs. Tull and Mrs. Detterich..... 9:00 am
  2. Mrs. King.................................. 9:30 am
  3. Ms. Freitas/Mr. Hall..................10:00 am
  4. Mr. Millar..................................10:30 am
We will ask that you travel up Via Del Rey and then turn into MHS drive thru, safely exiting right to Via Del Rey.

Virtual Assembly Via Zoom:
The second part of the celebration will begin at 11:30 am.  Teachers will send their class a Zoom invite so that families can view the assembly together to share this important event.  Join us as we congratulate your children, share special memories and offer few surprises!

We are a learning family,
Laurie Narro,
Proud Principal of MHS!!
