SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (July 18, 2019) – South Pasadena Unified School District has named Bryant Lopez as the new assistant principal for Monterey Hills Elementary School.
“We’re very excited to announce that Bryant Lopez will join the team leading Monterey Hills Elementary School,” said Superintendent Geoff Yantz. “Mr. Lopez understands how to put students first and has a track record of creating programs that meet their needs and help them excel. He brings a creative, hands-on approach to student socialization and development.”
Lopez recently served as the District’s adapted physical education specialist, a position he has held since 2012. This position encompasses planning and organizing various programs for all five South Pasadena schools. He worked on developing students’ individual education plans (IEPs) and formulated various teaching techniques to better assist students in meeting their goals. Working alongside general education and special education teachers, he also provided resources and ideas to further enhance the physical education experience for students with disabilities. His bilingual skills also helped him to better understand and communicate the needs of parents and students. Outside of these responsibilities, Lopez annually partnered with the Special Olympics to bring funding and programs to South Pasadena High School and Middle School.
Lopez graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a master’s degree in educational administration. He also holds a single subject certification in physical education and adapted physical education. His passion for teaching and working towards making a difference in the lives of students and those around him was one of the reasons why he decided to obtain his administrative services credential. Lopez hopes to share his knowledge and passion with students and teachers in order to create a strong learning environment.
In addition to teaching, Lopez loves to travel and collect records. He spends his spare time boxing, hiking, swimming, running, and practicing meditation and mindfulness.
