Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten, often referred to as TK, is an exciting educational opportunity for children who turn five between the time of Sept. 2 and Dec. 2. It is the first phase of a two-year Kindergarten program that uses age-appropriate curricula aligned to the Common Core State Standards.

California law (EC 48000) defines TK as β€œthe first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.” While no state curriculum is mandated, pursuant to EC 48000(f), TK programs are intended to be aligned to the California Preschool Learning Foundations developed by the CDE.

Monterey Hills has hosted the TK class on it's campus since the program was approved by the California Department of Education in 2012.  The teachers examined guidelines provided by the State and developed/adapted curriculum as well as a the TK report card for use in the district.
