Common Core State Standards/ CAASPP

What is Common Core California?

In California, the State Board of Education decides on the standards for all students from kindergarten through high school.  Since 2010, a number of states across the nation (California, included) adopted the same standards for English and math.  These standards are called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

Annually our students, 3rd-5th grade take the CAASPP.  This assessment takes place during the month of May over a two-week span.  Students are assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Fifth grade students have an additional test called the CAST (CAlifornia Science Test) used to measure knowledge of NGSS. During the school year 2017-18 the CAST will be field tested.

Over this coming year, MHS will conduct a number of parent trainings to learn more about the assessment.
